Glaucoma specialist Yvonne Ou, MD, has been chosen as an outstanding teacher, mentor, and role model by UCSF Medical School’s 2014 graduating class. The Excellence in Teaching Award honored five among hundreds of clinical faculty members. “Having been mentored and influenced by great teachers during my own training, it is a huge honor to guide future ophthalmologists,” says Dr. Ou.
Medical students interested in exploring ophthalmology work alongside Dr. Ou in the operating room, glaucoma clinic, and laboratory. For example, this year a medical student was awarded a fellowship to work full time in Dr. Ou’s lab. They are developing a glaucoma “disease in a dish” model using stem cells from glaucoma patients.
