Two PostDoc Slam Finalists from Dept. of Ophthalmology

September 19, 2022

The week of September 19, 2022 marked 2022 National Postdoc Appreciation Week and the return of the Postdoc Slam. Of the 1,100 postdocs at UCSF, there were 10 postdoc slam finalists and 2 of the finalists were from Ophthalmology. Ophthalmology is not the largest department, but excelled in this year’s event – as evidenced by the fact that 20% of the post-doc slam finalists were from Ophthalmology!

Congratulations to Sangeetha (Sangs) Kandoi, PhD and Irene Ojeda Naharros, PhD:

  • Sangeetha Kandoi is a Postdoc at Dr. Deepak Lamba’s Lab. Her current post-doctoral research is aimed at developing a 13-lined ground squirrel as a novel resource model for treating irreversible blindness using stem cells. The title of her presentation was Can’t You See Well? This Squirrel Could Help You!
  • Irene Ojeda Naharros is a 4th year postdoc in the Nachury lab. Her research explores the role of the BBSome and the primary cilium in body-weight homeostasis. The title of her presentation was One hair to rule them all.

Both presentations at the Postdoc Slam were entertaining, engaging, and incredibly inspiring.  Congratulations also to Sangeetha for winning the People’s Choice Award!
