UCSF Ophthalmology Ranked #10 in Nation by U.S. News & World Report

The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology has been ranked among the top 10 eye care programs in the country in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, moving up from last year’s placement, marking a return to the top 10 for UCSF Ophthalmology. This comes as UCSF Health is also named the best in California, tied for #1 hospital in the state.

This recognition reflects UCSF Ophthalmology’s unwavering commitment to advancing global visual health through personalized care, innovative research and outstanding education.

Each year, UCSF’s ophthalmologists and optometrists provide expert evaluation and treatment through both general and subspecialty practices. We operate the largest surgical eye care program in Northern California, offering advanced care in cataract and cornea surgery, glaucoma, oculoplastics, uveitis, ocular oncology, neuro-ophthalmology and more.

We also proudly train the next generation of leaders in ophthalmology. Our highly selective residency and fellowship programs provide a rigorous foundation in both clinical and scientific practice.
