UCSF’s Dr. Jacque Duncan Discusses Stargardt Disease Trial Results at AAO 2026

October 20, 2026

Jacque Duncan, MD, Chair and Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF, was recently featured in Ophthalmology Times discussing results from the Phase 3 DRAGON clinical trial evaluating tinlarebant, an investigational oral treatment for Stargardt disease, a rare inherited retinal condition that causes progressive vision loss.

At the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2026 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Dr. Duncan presented the trial results on behalf of the DRAGON investigators. The trial met its primary endpoint, demonstrating a 35.7% reduction in the growth of retinal lesions compared with placebo. Currently, there are no FDA-approved treatments for ABCA4-related Stargardt disease.

In the feature interview, Dr. Duncan discusses the trial’s findings, potential side effects, and what this emerging therapy could mean for patients living with Stargardt disease.

Tinlarebant is currently under FDA priority review, with a decision expected in February 2027.
