Faculty showcase advances in vision research and patient care at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting

UCSF Department of Ophthalmology and Francis I. Proctor Foundation faculty joined ophthalmologists, researchers, and vision care professionals from around the world at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2026 Annual Meeting, held October 9–12 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Throughout the four-day meeting, UCSF faculty shared their expertise through scientific presentations, educational sessions, panel discussions, and research posters covering a wide range of ophthalmic specialties, including retina, glaucoma, cornea, pediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, and ocular inflammatory diseases.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to recognize outstanding faculty achievements, including Saraswathy Ramanathan, MD, who was honored as the 2026 Straatsma Award recipient for her exceptional contributions to ophthalmology education (pictured above).

Reconnecting with the UCSF Ophthalmology Community

A highlight of the weekend was the UCSF Ophthalmology Alumni and Friends Reception, held Saturday, October 10, at the historic Napoleon House in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter.

Hosted by the UCSF Department of Ophthalmology, Francis I. Proctor Foundation, Frederick C. Cordes Eye Society, H. Bruce Ostler Association of Proctor Fellows, and All May See Foundation, the gathering brought together faculty, alumni, fellows, colleagues, and friends for an evening of conversation, camaraderie, and connection.

The annual reception offered a wonderful opportunity to renew friendships, celebrate shared accomplishments, and strengthen the relationships that make the UCSF Ophthalmology community so special.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in New Orleans! We look forward to continuing these connections and coming together again at future events.
