A St. Louis family organized a third fundraising walk on Sunday, October 27, in honor of their son, Landon who was diagnosed with Gould Syndrome and is turning 3. It was such a great and beautiful fall day! There were over 200 people who took a lap with Landon! This year the event had almost 40 lap sponsors including businesses, organizations, family and friends. It was also the first year the family had raffle baskets that included gift cards, air pods, NHL tickets, homemade paintings and cornhole boards just to highlight a few.
Gould Syndrome is a genetic multi-system disorder that is characterized by abnormal blood vessels in the brain, heart and kidney complications and in Landon’s case, eye abnormalities and epilepsy. Your support helps additional research and testing of therapeutic avenues which gives families hope!
About one-third of infants born with Gould Syndrome have cataracts at birth or developmental defects that can lead to early-onset glaucoma. The syndrome is named for UCSF geneticist Douglas Gould, PhD, in recognition of his discovery of and his lab’s work on this rare, multisystem disorder. It is caused by mutations in collagen genes COL4A1 and COL4A2.
Help us cross the finish line!
Proceeds raised from the walk went to support Dr. Douglas Gould’s vision research that makes a lasting difference in treatment of this rare disease. The family’s goal for the event was $15,000 – and to date the event has raised $11,885 with gifts still being received.
