Celebrating Nurses Week 2026: Thank You to Our Nursing Professionals

May 6, 2026

As National Nurses Week begins on May 6, we proudly join healthcare organizations across the country in celebrating the extraordinary nurses whose compassion, expertise, and dedication make exceptional patient care possible every day.

National Nurses Week continues through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. For decades, this annual observance has recognized the vital role nurses play throughout our healthcare system and the lasting impact they have on patients, families, and communities.

Today, more than 4 million registered nurses serve on the front lines of care across the United States. Whether in hospitals, clinics, operating rooms, schools, or community health settings, nurses provide not only clinical expertise, but also comfort, reassurance, and hope during some of life’s most challenging moments.

At UCSF Ophthalmology, nurses are essential members of the patient care team. From supporting complex surgeries and specialized treatments to guiding patients and families through their care journeys, their work helps make life-changing vision care possible every day.

This week, we invite our community to recognize and thank the nurses who make a difference in their lives. A simple note of appreciation, a kind word, or a gift made in honor of a nurse can be a meaningful way to celebrate their dedication and service.

Please join us in honoring the incredible nurses of UCSF Ophthalmology and all nurses whose commitment and compassion help improve lives every day.
