A Powerful Model for Moving Ideas Forward
The Innovation Fund was created to give UCSF Ophthalmology and Francis I. Proctor Foundation faculty the resources, mentorship, and strategic support needed to bring innovative concepts to life. Once philanthropic funding is secured, faculty are invited to propose bold ideas with the potential to transform patient care. These proposals are reviewed by an independent Advisory Committee of UCSF experts, industry leaders, and investors, ensuring that the most promising ideas advance.
Finalists are selected and encouraged to strengthen their concepts, receiving early financial support and guidance that positions them for long-term success. Their refined ideas are then presented to the All May See Foundation Board of Directors, whose approval ensures alignment with the Foundation’s mission and strategic priorities.
Supporting Faculty as They Build the Future
Awarded faculty members are matched with seasoned mentors such as experienced entrepreneurs, venture advisors, and innovation professionals who help shape early ideas into viable ventures. This collaborative process supports everything from business modeling and intellectual property strategy to prototype development and operational planning. It is intentionally hands-on, giving innovators the tools and confidence to move their discoveries toward meaningful clinical impact.
To help faculty reach the next stage, All May See partners with Mike Papac, PhD, of UCSF Innovation Ventures, connecting innovators with prospective investors and industry collaborators. Through one-on-one pitch meetings or Innovation Showcase events, faculty have opportunities to secure additional funding, build strategic partnerships, and position their discoveries for future commercialization.
Strategic Philanthropy That Creates Lasting Impact
At its core, the Innovation Fund provides a structured, mission-driven way for high-impact donors to fuel the next generation of breakthroughs. By connecting philanthropic investment with UCSF’s world-class researchers, All May See helps ensure that pioneering ideas move from laboratory insight to patient care.
This approach strengthens UCSF’s ability to develop treatments that preserve and restore sight, creating a lasting legacy of innovation for generations to come.
