UCSF Ophthalmology Hosted Dr. Michael Kass for the Second Annual Stamper Lecture

The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology welcomed Michael Kass, MD, Bernard Becker Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, as this year’s distinguished speaker for the second annual Robert L. Stamper, MD, Endowed Visiting Lectureship in Glaucoma during Grand Rounds on Thursday, November 6, in Hoffman Auditorium and via Zoom.

Dr. Kass, internationally recognized for his leadership in glaucoma research, shared groundbreaking insights on ocular hypertension, individual risk assessment, and the long-term impact of early glaucoma treatment. His work has shaped modern understanding of how glaucoma develops and progresses, knowledge that remains central to UCSF Ophthalmology’s mission to preserve vision and prevent blindness for patients worldwide.

During his visit, Dr. Kass offered valuable perspective on the prognosis of ocular hypertension and the importance of detecting risk early. His lecture continued the department’s longstanding commitment to advancing discovery and delivering exceptional care to patients affected by glaucoma.

About the Robert L. Stamper, MD Endowed Visiting Lectureship in Glaucoma

The Stamper Lecture honors Robert L. Stamper, MD, a pioneering clinician, educator, and longtime leader of the UCSF Glaucoma Service. In recognition of Dr. Stamper’s decades of impact on trainees and patients, more than 80 donors came together through the All May See Foundation to establish the Robert L. Stamper, MD Endowed Visiting Lectureship in Glaucoma, an endowed fund that has now surpassed $270,000.
